Homeless children face many more obstacles to school and job success than do their non-homeless peers.

Homeless children:

· have four times the average rate of delayed development;

· have more academic problems than other children;

· are under-served by special education;

· are suspended twice as often as other children;

· are twice as likely to repeat a grade;

· attend an average of two different schools in a single year.

Studies consistently have shown that children who have experienced homelessness, even for a short time, have a much higher chance of being homeless as adults.

ConnecTreks program services support education, training and work, and help ensure access to school and opportunities for success in school; these are two points from the seven point platform presented by the National Center on Family Homelessness to significantly improve the well-being of homeless children.
