Why Do We Have An Endowment Fund?
By Bill Michelinie, for the Meeting Ground Endowment Committee
The old saying "nothing is certain except death and taxes" is not true. In our world a bigger issue is the continual need to assist persons who are without the fundamental requirements for human life, food, shelter, and friendship. Numerous organizations worldwide work to address these needs but the list is ever changing. Even though their objectives are noble and their works are good, organizations fail for lack of sufficient financial support.

Providing for the ongoing needs of homeless and needy persons is accomplished in two ways, 1) current contributions of cash, physical items and other assets and 2) building a reserve.

This is the reason, the justification, the purpose and the hope of establishing an endowment fund for Meeting Ground. When times are good support for charitable organizations is maximized and when times are not so good contributions to "worthy causes" decreases. Unfortunately the needs of homeless persons does not follow this pattern and in fact when times are the worst the need for assistance to the needy is often even greater. This year Meeting Ground will celebrate God's gift and your good works of assisting homeless persons for 20 years. We expect to continue this work not only another 20 years but as far into the future as our work is needed. One way to assure prolonging the work of Meeting Ground is to build upon the Endowment Fund we have started. We can help assure extending the works of Meeting Ground by sharing our wealth for today and tomorrow. Wealth means different things to each of us but regardless of what level it defines for you your support at any level is needed. Please contact Carl Mazza or the Endowment Committee who can explain the many ways for you to share today or in the future.
