We now
have a building for the
Daytime Empowerment Program
for persons and families in our
community who are experiencing homelessness
“The
Mary Randall Center”
401 North Street, Elkton MD
The building is ideal for this ministry. It is commercial zoning (C-1) which permits all possible uses we need. It is spacious and centrally located within easy walking distance of all offices and services. It has a large addition which we can use for gatherings, meals, and similar purposes. The construction is solid and much of the upgrade work (painting, cleaning, minor repairs) needed can be accomplished by volunteers – and we have many of those!
The Visioning Committee of the Churches has joined with the decision of Meeting Ground’s board to name the new house in honor of Mary Randall, and the spirit of dedication to her desire to be of greater service to persons in the community who are in need. Mary died from cancer on April 15, 2006 at the young age of 60 with a heart yearning to do more. Mary’s sister Sara Mullin and her husband Rig, friends and partners in this ministry for many years, dedicated a generous seed-gift from Mary’s estate toward the purchase of the house… as well as the inspiration of Mary’s life and love for people. Mary was truly a free spirit with a heart for adventure. She persevered against all odds with boundless energy and a sense of humor that endeared her to all who knew her. She left behind hundreds of friends all over the world who found her to be an inspiration and ideal role model for the “can do” woman of our generation.
This stately home was built in 1911 and has a warm inviting appeal as you approach and step onto the wrap around porch. Walk into a large bright open foyer, pocket doors lead to a living room on your right and a sitting room and dining room on your left. There are hardwood floors and 9' ceilings throughout. Upstairs there are 5 good sized bedrooms, excellent as breakout rooms for counseling, training, etc. In the back of the house is a 37' x 20' shop area that can be used as either a dining area or a large meeting room. There is a full bath on each floor and a kitchen of adequate size but all will need some TLC. The basement has an area that will serve well as a laundry room. There is also a 3rd floor walk in attic for storage.
We are
seeking and praying for $160,000. for the balance of the purchase price. We are trusting that the Lord will continue
to provide all we need for this ministry into which we have been called.
We welcome any and all help to
achieve this goal.
